Korean Animal Welfare Association

Our group was established to build a society in which humans and animals can co-exist peacefully by promoting practices that preserve animal’s habitats and better ethical practices so that there is a reduction in numbers and species of animals that lose their habitats or are used for human gain, we also try to ensure that all animals that are looked after by people experience humane treatment.

Major projects

(1) Companion animals: Create a healthy pet culture, respond to incidents of animal abuse, rescue and protect abused animals, re-home abandoned animals and implement campaigns to improve current systems, prohibit the consumption of dog meat and promote awareness of this issue in various fields.

(2) Farm Animals: Implement activities to promote the welfare of farm animal through legislative and political means etc., including campaigns to increase awareness of animal welfare, etc., so that farm animals that suffer due to factory farming systems can be assured of a life where they live according to their own instincts and nature.

(3) Animal experiments: Implement public campaigns to lobby for institutions to develop alternative materials and for the government to improve laws and systems in order to stop the use of live animals in unnecessary or repetitive experiments.

(4) Animal exhibitions: Develop campaigns and legislative activities that oppose the establishment of zoos and aquariums that exhibit animals for commercial purposes, improve animal welfare by improving the environments in which animals are exhibited, and stop physical and mental injury that animals endure in animal shows and “experience” exhibitions.

(5) Stray Cats: Provide citizens with information on caring for cats, TNR and cat rescue and protection, as well as teaching people about how to interact with stray cats

(6) Sharing project: The Korean Animal Welfare Association not only carries out self-funded rescue activities, it also provides financial support to small groups and individuals who are working hard to rescue animals. We also operate shared projects to enable small-scale animal relief activities across the country.

(7) Lobby a variety of industries that abuse animals and treat them inhumanely, e.g. skinning them for fur (the fur trade industry), in order to protect animals and improve their welfare and help wild animals that have lost their homes due to habitat destruction and capture.
